When carbon credits are retired, they are permanently removed from circulation — no resale, no double-counting, ever. Every BCG retirement is recorded on the Verra registry and on-chain.
A carbon credit represents one metric tonne of CO₂ equivalent captured or avoided. To use that credit for a climate claim — such as "we offset our 2025 emissions" — the credit must be retired: permanently cancelled on the registry so it can never be sold or used again.
Without retirement, credits can be sold multiple times to different buyers — meaning the same tonne of carbon is claimed by dozens of organizations. Retirement closes this loophole permanently.
BCG retires credits on behalf of pool participants as projects hit their verification thresholds. Each retirement is linked to a beneficiary name, timestamp, and dual proof: Verra registry record + on-chain transaction hash.
Every retirement is logged in the Verra Verified Carbon Standard registry — the world's leading voluntary carbon market standard. Public and independently verifiable.
Once retired, a credit is permanently cancelled. It cannot be transferred, resold, or re-issued. The blockchain record is immutable.
Each retirement includes a transaction hash on Arbitrum. Anyone can verify the on-chain record independently without trusting BCG.
Retirements follow a strict multi-step verification chain — from registry issuance all the way to on-chain proof.
Verra VCS issues verified carbon credits to the project after a successful third-party audit. Issuance is recorded on the public registry.
BCG holds credits in the pool on behalf of contributors. When the pool hits a retirement threshold, retirement is triggered via governance.
The BCG admin initiates retirement on the Verra registry. The credit is permanently cancelled with contributor names as beneficiaries.
Carbon credit retirements will appear here once pool deposits reach the first retirement threshold and credits are issued from a verified audit.

Pool participants are attributed as beneficiaries. Your contribution is reflected in the final retirement record on the Verra registry.
